Jump on the Alexa Redirect train!

By Elizabeth | May 16, 2007

I get a lot of questions from people I help with their blogs asking, what the heck is Alexa? Why do I need it, how do I use it, where do I get it? Alexa is two things-a site that measures traffic rankings, and a Toolbar that you install somewhere on your screen that sends a bit of code to Alexa every time another toolbar user visits your blog. I would love if everyone who reads this blog would take just a minute and install the Alexa toolbar. Firefox users, get the addon by clicking this link. Non-Firefox users, click this link instead. The more people that have the toolbar installed, the better each of our rankings gets.

Now you might be asking yourself so what? Why should I care about Alexa rankings? Well, if you ever think you might want to work for PayPerPost or other paid blogging sites, your Alexa rankings are going to determine how good the opportunities you can get are, and how much they pay. When I first started with PayPerPost at the beginning of March, my Alexa ranking for Table for Five was two million, two hundred thousand something. Today it is a little above 90,000. The lower the score, the better. How did it drop so fast? I joined groups like an Alexa Project Blogroll, and I put my Alexa redirect URL into message board signatures.

Simply put, if you want to increase traffic to your blog, install the Alexa toolbar. It takes up just a bit of space at the top or bottom of the screen, and gives you valuable information about the sites you visit such as traffic details for the site, who else links to the site, and whether or not your comment on that site will be “followed” by search engines. Trust me, you NEED IT. Here’s a list of other people who are participating with Alexa, and if you want your URL added, you just need to have the Alexa toolbar installed, and leave me your blog name and URL in the comments! If you want to copy this list for your own site, just follow the easy rules:

~Start Copying Here~

Rules:

1. Write an introduction explaining to your readers what Alexa is, how you use it, and links to the Alexa toolbar sites.

2. Start copying on the “~Start Copying Here~” and copy all the things listed without removing the links (Of course, the train would be no use without those links)

3. Move all the sites labeled “Newcomers” to the list labeled “Oldies”

4. Add 5 sites that you want to include in the train and make their link like this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.example.com then invite them to join the train.

5. Visit all the listed sites! (That’s not much work! Remember, if you plant good seeds they will also grow good) and look at your high Alexa ranking next week!

the Alexa thing sounds great to me. I am with you on that about why do we need it other than PPP. I just don’t think that mine updates at all. I need to get the toolbar, but when I tried off another website it actually did something weird to my laptop (probably a bad site to get it from). But great article promoting the Alexa
