My Dad always made French Toast with just egg and milk, which was okay, but when I started making it myself for my kids, I started adding a pinch of sugar and a splash of vanilla, which makes it REALLY good. Then, when I got my red Betty Crocker Cookbook (my cooking bible!), I looked up the French Toast recipe and to my surprise, it called for also adding flour to the egg mixture. It seemed odd, but what it does is create more of a batter than just an egg wash, giving the bread a nice coating that turns it a lovely golden brown. I highly recommend you try this recipe and see if you don’t like it as much as I do! This recipe makes 18 pieces, which seems like a lot, but you can let extra pieces cool, put them in freezer bags and store them in the freezer for another time.
You’ll Need Flour, bread, eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla, salt:

INGREDIENTS-
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 eggs
18 slices French bread or thick sandwich bread
margarine, butter, shortening or cooking spray to grease griddle
Beat flour, milk, sugar, vanilla, salt and eggs in a large bowl, using a hand mixer, until completely smooth. Heat electric griddle or large skillet over medium heat or to 375 degrees. Grease the griddle or skillet. To test the griddle or skillet, sprinkle it with a few drops of water. If the water drops bounce around, the heat is just right.
DIRECTIONS-
Pour some of the egg mixture into a wide shallow bowl (or scoop it up with a ladle).
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for just a few seconds then flipping it over to let the opposite side soak.
Lift the bread carefully out of the mixture and let the excess drip back into the bowl, then place the bread onto the griddle or skillet. Do as many slices as will fit the cooking surface. Cook about 4 minutes or until golden brown on the bottom, then flip the slices over.
Cook on the other side until golden brown, remove from skillet, serve with butter, syrup, powdered sugar, sliced bananas, whatever you like on French Toast!

Ah ha! I discovered the vanilla and sugar bit on my own, but it sounds like flour is the (literal) missing ingredient. Next time I break out the french toast, I’ll be trying this recipe. I always use the thickest bread I can find at the local bakery outlet, and store the rest in the freezer for a later date. No worries if it gets a little stale, since it’s going to end up being soaked in egg and fried up anyway.

One thing I do is use flavored creamer in place of milk, and also add a bit of cinnamon. I’ll try the addition of flour next time, though!

The simple preparation procedure for this French toast is wonderful, I’ll just try them out this Saturday for my family breakfast and i hope to tell you the enjoyable outcome
But there is one thing though, please narrate and demonstrate the preparation of cheese. I seem to grab these things fast from you!
I never would have thought to add flour. I usually add a little sugar and some cinnamon to my egg/milk mixture, but I will definitely have to give the flour a try next time.
Also, I usually mix up my egg and milk, make as many pieces of French toast we want, and cover and refrigerate the remaining mix. Then, the next day or so, I can easily make more French toast, since the batter is already made and the griddle is usually still on the stove.
I really love french toast and it is really YUMMY. I will try your tips to make my french toast more delicious.
