Four Foods on Friday #40, the Candy Edition!

#1. Candy. Do you prefer sweet or sour candy?
#2. Gum. Love it? Hate it? What kind is your favorite?
#3. What is your favorite candy?
#4. Share a recipe for anything that you can include a piece of candy in.

#1. I prefer CHOCOLATEY Candy! But if we are talking hard candy, definitely sweet. My Grandma Sullivan always had a bag of Brach’s Butterscotch Disks, and my Grandpa Sullivan used to give us Root Beer Barrels-remember those?

#2. I keep gum on hand, for those not-so-fresh-breath moments, I’m currently going through a pack of Dentyne Ice in Spearmint. I also like the original Wrigley’s Spearmint in the green pack.

#3. My favorite candy? Like if I had to choose just one? Snickers bars.

#4. THE PEANUT BLOSSOM!

Ingredients:

2 2/3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Additional sugar
5 dozen kisses, unwrapped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda. Add butter and peanut butter and mix until smooth. Add sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth.

Sprinkle granulated sugar onto a large plate. Scoop up a level tablespoon of dough and roll it in your hands to make a ball. If it’s too sticky, rub some flour between your hands first. Plop the balls of dough onto the sugar on the plate, and roll them around until all sides are coated.

Bake 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet for 8 minutes. Watch carefully so they don’t get brown. While the dough is baking, start unwrapping the Hershey’s Kisses. This is a fun job for kids to help with if you can keep them from eating too many of them!

Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each one. CAREFUL, the cookies and the pan are hot! Return the cookies to the oven and bake for 2 more minutes. Let cool before eating!
