Book Review- The Dinner Diaries

The subtitle of this book is “Raising Whole Wheat Kids in a White Bread World”, and I can attest to the fact that doing so is not easy! In fact, it’s not just harder to get my kids to eat healthier, it’s hard for ME to eat healthier because I was raised with white bread and white pasta, and it’s hard for me to get used to the taste of healthier foods.

Betsy Block and her husband Andy just wanted to find a way to feed themselves and their two kids food that was healthy, locally grown if possible, and comprised of real ingredients. But they found that dealing with the “picky eater” problem and their own likes and dislikes created more problems than they expected. Betsy consulted food experts, made lists of foods that were high in vitamins and minerals, and came up with a ten-step family food makeover plan with humorous results. This isn’t a cookbook, there are just a few recipes at the back, but if you feel like you are the only one who can’t get your kids to eat fish or try tofu, you’ll appreciate Block’s witty retelling of what it’s really like to change your family’s diet.
