Four Foods on Friday #54-with an apple pie recipe!

Posted by: Elizabeth on Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Here are this week’s questions, because we just had the election they are red white and blue questions!
#1. Name a food you like that uses a red sauce or anything red in it.
#2. Name a food you like with whipped cream in it or on it.
#3. Name a food you like with blueberry in it.
#4. Share a recipe for pasta or dessert or a beverage.

#1- That’s easy, spaghetti! I like to use jarred sauce and add ground beef or ground sausage plus onions, garlic, and extra spices.

#2- Mmmm, whipped cream! I like a big dollop of it on a piece of warm apple pie.

#3- I like fresh blueberries mixed into vanilla yogurt, I like blueberry muffins, and I like blueberry pancakes!

#4- Since I mentioned apple pie, here’s a super easy recipe for Cinnamon Apple Crumb Pie:

Ingredients:

* 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling
* 1 unbaked pastry shell (9 inches)
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 4 tablespoons butter, divided
* 1-1/2 to 2 cups crushed pecan shortbread cookies

Directions:
Pour pie filling into pastry shell. Sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Melt remaining butter. Place cookie crumbs in a small bowl; stir in butter until coarse crumbs form. Sprinkle over filling. Cover edges of pastry loosely with foil.
Bake at 450° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°; remove foil and bake for 40-45 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours. Yield: 6-8 servings. Don’t forget to pass the whipped cream to go on top!

That pie is too tempting. Interesting twist, the crushed cookies. I’m going to have to try that.

Those are pie recipes I’m down with except I don’t like apple pie. Ya I know how unAmerican. I hate cooked apples. Gonna try it with cherry pie filling instead :)

With your easy-to-follow recipe, I think I can finally make my own apple pie. :) The crushed pecan cookies definitely gave twist on your apple pie recipe.

I always doctor up jarred spaghetti sauce. Tomato and Basil sauce from Barilla is my favorite.

My mother in law made an apple crumble the other day and i have to say it was disturbing. She had over cooked it and there was little hard balls of brown surgar in it that almost broke my teeth. I always like apple crumble as a kid but now i’m finding myself turned off. Perhaps i will try your recipe for the pie and recover.

Crushed cookies as a pseudo-streusel topping is GENIUS. I must try this.
