Easy (and surprising!) ways to cut 100 calories

Published by Elizabeth at 8:41 pm under Food News

From Women’s Health Magazine comes this great article, 78 Ways to Cut 100 Calories. Making small swaps during meals and snacks can really add up! The most surprising to me? That there are less calories in Wendy’s Value Menu Fries than in the Sour Cream & Chives Baked Potato!

Cut 100 calories at…

Breakfast

· Scramble together four egg whites instead of 2 whole eggs

· Lose the Yoplait Thick & Creamy and have a Yoplait Fiber 1

The Drive-Thru

· Make your daily pick-me-up at Starbucks a skinny vanilla latte, not a regular

· Pass up a Wendy’s baked potato with sour cream and chives and chow down on value fries instead. Amazing but true.

Lunch

· Slather your bread with mustard rather than mayo and save 80 calories per tablespoon

· Have a quesadilla made with two 6-inch corn, not flour, tortillas

Happy Hour

· Nurse a single glass of wine instead of downing 2 beers

· Drizzle extra hot sauce, not blue cheese or ranch dressing, on your wings

Dessert

· Stop eating when you hit the crust. The edges and bottoms of baked goods are especially caloric because they absorb the butter used to grease the pan

· Have sugar free Jell-O instead of pudding

In the Kitchen

· Use chicken broth (low-sodium is best) instead of oil to sauté meat and veggies

· Substitute nonfat Greek yogurt for a serving of sour cream

I can’t believe that about a baked potato with the fixings versus value fries at Wendys!

Egg whites does not inspire me, but i like one glass of wine instead of 2 beers.Today is Friday and i am going out, so i’ll follow this advice tonight. I wish you a wonderful, 100-calories-less weekend!

  4. Great news for me! I love mustard, hotsauce, and corn tortillas but they seem hard to find for some reason.

  5. I love and use the broth/ bouillon instead of oil idea, my favorite comes in a jar, it’s called “better than bouillon”, and adds amazing flavor. Great post!
