STAR® Olive Oil Launches Nationwide “Flavors of the Mediterranean” Recipe Contest September 20
STAR Olive Oil is encouraging cooks to try olive oil in place of butter this season and is looking for creative new recipes in its “Flavors of the Mediterranean” Recipe Contest. Contest runs thru Dec 20 with judging and prizes Jan 2010.
The grand prize winner will enjoy an all-expense paid culinary adventure to Catalonia Spain with daily cooking classes, visits to local wineries, food markets, historic sites and a private olive oil tasting at STAR’s facilities in Tarrega. EASY WAYS TO USE OLIVE OIL INSTEAD OF BUTTER/MARGARINE THIS SEASON:
* Use light olive oil instead of butter in cakes, cookies and muffins — use olive oil to prepare the pan too!
* Inject your holiday turkey with extra-virgin olive oil, a little orange juice and seasonings for a moist, fresh bird.
* Mash your potatoes with extra-virgin olive oil and fresh garlic instead of butter and cream.
* Dip breads and rolls in extra-virgin olive oil mixed with a bit of balsamic vinegar and favorite herbs

I love olive oil, and yes, I do cook with it. One of our favorite things is to rub it on steaks, and then rub on some Montreal Steak Seasoning before grilling. I also use it in my sourdough bread, and stir fry zucchini, and… The list goes on and on, and I am almost out so I need to buy more or win your giveaway! :D

We LOVE olive oil in my household!! We use it for all cooking – whether it be eggs, salads, etc. I love to use it for popping popcorn – add some zesty seasoning and it makes for great flavors for a family movie night!!

I use olive oil whenever I saute veggies. I think our favorite way to use it is to dip italian bread in it (we add a little italian seasoning to the oil to make the dipping sauce). We use it instead of butter.

Being part Italian, I use Olive Oil a lot! I use it for my salad dressings, and to saute garlic, meat, really just about every night I use it in some way!

My favorite way to eat it is with bread. I put olive oil in a dish with some balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper and dip to my heart’s content.

I use olive oil in place of vegetable oil in all of my marinades and salad dressings, but my favorite thing to do with it is to make fresh herbal oils – crush fresh herbs and drop them into a bottle of Star Olive oil and let it set for a day or two before using. Rosemary oil and sage oil are my two favorite combinations.
